FAQ's
What’s Toastmasters all about?
Toastmasters is a worldwide group that helps people get better at public speaking. There are over 16,600 clubs in 143 countries—and lucky you, London’s got 80 of them!
Our meetings are all about practicing prepared and off-the-cuff speeches, plus giving and getting helpful feedback in a super supportive environment.
Do I have to talk?
Not at all! Just showing up is an awesome start. We totally get that speaking in front of people can be nerve-wracking, so we never force anyone to talk.
If you want to just sit back and see how it works, that’s completely fine. We do offer a chance for guests to introduce themselves, but it’s totally optional—you can skip it if you’re not feeling ready yet.
On the other hand, if you’re up for a challenge, you can join in on Table Topics. These are fun, short, 1–2 minute impromptu speeches that are always a good laugh.
What happens at the meetings?
Meetings are all about practicing your speaking skills and getting constructive feedback. Here’s how it’s usually broken down:
-
Prepared speeches: Members deliver talks they’ve planned in advance.
-
Table topics: Improvised speeches where you think on your feet.
-
Evaluations: Friendly, helpful feedback to help you improve.

What’s the cost?
Coming as a guest is completely free, and we actually recommend you try out a few clubs to see what suits you best.
